Thankfully, there are several ways to easily remove fake tan from your face. But you may first wish to consider revitalizing and touching up before attempting to remove the tan.
If you need to touch-up or remove your fake tan in a hurry, here are some simple, effective methods, all of which are fairly inexpensive and some available in our Prep & Maintain range. You can even create fake tan remover products from ingredients you probably already have in your pantry or bathroom.
Try any of these tips to easily revitalise and remove a fake tan from your face.
As a first step, why not try revitalising your complexion by using this little wonder to touch up your fake tan? This build up remover mitt allows you to give that fake tan a second chance before giving up and removing it.
Use this mitt on wet skin, ideally in the shower, to buff away fake tan build up and remove dry skin for a more even skin tone. Buff away streaks and uneven patches, or use the mitt to remove the majority of the fake tan completely.
If you like, use a gentle skin cleanser after exfoliating to ensure that any loose dead skin washes away. Finally, apply a gentle moisturiser after patting your skin dry, such as the St.Tropez Tan Enhancing Body Moisturiser.
2. Remove the tan with a bicarb soda paste
Another simple method for removing a fake tan from your face is by using a homemade bicarb soda paste. This method is simple and inexpensive. All you need is bicarbonate of soda, available in the baking aisle at most stores, and water.
To create a paste, mix a small amount of bicarb soda with a little water in a dish. Add water to the soda a few drops at a time to ensure that you don’t make the paste too thin. You want your paste to be thick enough to apply to your face like a mask.
Apply the bicarb soda paste all over your face and leave for around twenty minutes. Next, massage the paste into your skin making circular motions. Apply more water if the paste has dried too much.
Leaving the mask on your skin will allow the bicarbonate of soda to energize your skin cells with oxygen, while the scrubbing action will help to remove the fake tan. Finally, rinse the paste from your face and pat skin dry.
You should use a gentle moisturiser on your face after this procedure as bicarbonate of soda can be very drying.
3. Remove the tan using baby oil or another body oil
To remove a fake tan from your face using the oil method, apply any skin-safe oil, such as baby oil, body oil, or even extra virgin olive oil, liberally to your face and allow it to sit for at least thirty minutes.
After allowing the oil to sit, you will want to exfoliate your skin. Use an exfoliating cloth or mitt, such as the St.Tropez Tan Build Up Remover Mitt, to gentle slough off dead skin cells. The oil will help gently remove the fake tan as you exfoliate the top layer of skin.
As you are using oil to remove the tan, there is no need to apply a moisturiser after using this method as oils are moisturising and hydrating for your skin.
4. Remove the tan with pure lemon juice or a lemon juice scrub
A homemade lemon sugar scrub is a great DIY method for removing a fake tan from your face because you can make up a batch of this scrub and keep it on hand. Depending on ingredients used, you may need to store the scrub in the refrigerator. Check your recipe of choice for details.
For lighter tans, or to remove streaks and small patches of saturated tan, try using pure lemon juice. Cut a fresh lemon in half and rub the exposed flesh of the fruit onto your skin in circular motions.
For a more stubborn tan, you may want to create an exfoliating scrub from lemon juice and raw sugar. You can also use lemon essential oil instead of juice. Some recipes call for coconut oil, or olive oil, and honey. These added ingredients create a more cream-like consistency to the scrub and offer a natural skin moisturiser.
However a scrub made purely from lemon juice and sugar will do the trick in removing your fake tan. A good ratio for a simple scrub is a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice to one cup of raw sugar.
Massage your face with the lemon scrub in circular motions to remove the tan. You will be sloughing off dead skin cells, and your face may feel tingly and raw. Pat your skin dry and apply a gentle moisturiser.
By using any one of these simple methods for removing fake tan from your face, you’ll be well on your way to a happier complexion and colour without the gross mistakes of a bad or built up fake tan!
